- Prophecy
Its friday today - and the
long weekend starts tomorrow (labor day). And its pay day
for me too - so today is a good day! :-)
Last week was my birthday
- and I got some goodies from my mum. Didnt do that much
on the day itself - just the usual friday night antics with
Julian and Ben.
But i've been dying to go
to a rave, and on Saturday I got my wish. Tim H convinced
me to go to Prophecy. At first I was a bit skeptical because
from the flyer it sounded like another totally hardcore/gabba
rave. I've been to a couple of those before and hated them.
But after Tim called me I had another look at the flyer
and there were DJ's like Nik Fish, Amber Savage etc.. who
aren't hardcore DJ's.. so I thought "Why not!".
So I turn up to the rave
with Tim, and i'm wearing my flashing alien tshirt ;-),
my little alien figurine thingy and a little ultra bright
light hanging over his head to make him glow. Plus the usual
glowsticks/bands. I was ready to party! :-)
The party was at the superdome
at Olympic Park. We get there and the queue to get in is
HUGE. But surprisingly it was very quick.. only about 10
mins to get in. Lots of security and even police sniffer
dogs. When we finally got in, there were 3 rooms - the main
superdome room, a smaller (but still warehouse sized) hardstyle
room and a little alcove room.
Me and Tim go into the main
room and the music was great and so was the vibe.. lots
of people dancing away, great lighting set up. Lots of fun!
Later on Ben (tims friend) and co join us. Later on we head
out to the smaller alcove room which also had awesome music.
Its been ages since I went to a huge rave (NYE was my last
big rave).. because I usually go to smaller ones, but i'm
glad I went to this one - i had so much fun. Tim was partying
hard the whole tim too - both of us were partying harder
than Ben and co, even though you would expect them to be
the ones partying hardest ;-).
As usual I got heaps of
comments about the flashing tshirt and of course had a ready
supply of "business card" type things which I
was handing out to anyone who asked where to get it from.
I probably gave about 15 cards away hehe - what a life hey,
business and pleasure at the same time!
Anyway me and tim head off
around 5am - the sun was coming out just as we were leaving.
Wasnt very tired when I got home, but went to bed anyway,
and spent the majority of Sunday asleep. Today my shoes
are starting to fall apart - they couldnt handle saturday
night... damn gotta buy a new pair.
I'm looking forward to the
long weekend this weekend. Should be fun!

- Small photo update
I have put
up three
more photos.
They all happen to include Ben! Still got lots to talk about
but no time - my birthday, the weekend rave etc.. I'll write
a bigger post soon.

- Arrr Matey! Shiver me timbers!
Just a quick entry today.
I've got lots to talk about but I'll do that when I get
time.. but for now..
Every now and then you come
across something funny thats out of place - or in place
as this was that case. The following is a poker machine
that I spotted in a gaming room inside a well known gay
bar on Oxford St.

Now is it just me or does
it say "Bugganeer"? I thought it was pretty funny
given the location. :-) Arrrrrr!

- The evil bird of death
It was a long weekend for
me last weekend. I spent most of it sleeping!
But when I was awake I played
lots of CS, played around with 3D Studio Max, and did some
bike riding.
I rode from darling harbour
over to five dock, and down a little street next to the
five dock RTA (where I did my street test for my drivers
licence). The street is about 150-200m long, and I was riding
along minding my own business when I hear a woosh! I turn
around and a magpie is right behind me. I look forward again
and it swoops on me again hitting the back of my helmet.
I turn around, and its hovering about 2 metres behind my
bike. Having no real option I try to outrun (outride?) it
but it swoops on me a couple more times.. and finally it
swoops on me biting my ear.
So there I am, a grown man
riding my bike in fear as fast as I can to escape a relentless
attack from a viscious bird :-). After it bit me on the
ear I turn around again - it stops attacking when I look
at it. I stared the little shit in the eye (using my evil
death stare). But it was not intimidated. So there I was
for a few seconds going down a street at high speed not
looking where I was going, engaged in a bitter eye-locking
duel with my nemesis.
It looked at me with its
cold calculating eyes. I look at it with Rays Stare of Death
(tm). Who would flinch first? Who would buckle under the
pressure?
My heart was racing. But
I could not continue without looking ahead. The bird was
outstaring me and I had no choice but to break contact with
its eyes. So I looked ahead. And swoop! And swoop again!
Finally after about 100m of this the magpie retreated back
to its territory to my immense relief. I had been beaten,
and bore the scars of the encounter.
Now, 2 days later, my ear
is still a bit sore. Little shit.

- Not a creature was stirring..
.. except for my MX518 Mouse!
I had a try of it on tuesday night (13th sep), but I was
totally crap - it took some getting used to, but last night
I had what was probably my best night of CounterStrike in
a long time. Its so much smoother and easier to control
that my previous mouse. And combined with the crazy fluoro
skins, its time to kick some arse! If I keep playing so
much CounterStrike I will become Korean :-)
Tim H came to chatswood
yesterday for lunch. He is now a chatswood wednesday lunch
regular :-). I've seen lots of Tim lately after a big mysterious
absence ;-). His friend Rochelle came as well, and they
discussed lots of gross things while I attempted to eat
my lunch hehe.
Saw Ben too.. he is working
at Chatswood as a barista. Me and Jules went in the other
day too to say hi, and Jenny Woo and co turned up as well..
it was like a big Ben fan club in there :-)
I've been dying to go to
a rave or something lately.. havent been to one in ages.
Had a bit of a look and there is nothing much coming up
until October. The only thing earlier is some Hardcore rave...
but the totally Hardcore parties are not my style, so i'll
wait until the October one and hopefully I can convince
some people to come with me!
Why dont they organise another
Rave Back in Time or something.. hmm.. if only i had unlimited
money i would just organise my own :-). Speaking of that,
I just read a Sydney DJ's weblog today and he said he and
his mates lost $25,000 trying to put on a big party. Hmmm..
an area to steer clear of I think.
There used to be so many
great raves back in the 90's and I think the "One"
party killed off a lot of those promoters. After the huge
success of Field of Dreams 4, the same organiser got a whole
lot of other promoters together to organise a 3 day party
called ONE. Unfortunately Sydney wasnt ready for such a
party, and they didnt sell enough tickets so the organiser
pulled the plug, leaving lots of promoters out of pocket.
I think that event changed the rave scene for good, and
got rid of a lot of the smaller great promoters and left
only a couple of big promoters who all turned commercial.
Bummer hey.

- Quiet weekend
The weekend was very quiet
this week. Didnt go out at night at all - didnt really feel
like it.
Played way too much counterstrike
as usual, and went for a rollerblade at Centennial Park
with Richard.
Me and Jules were wondering
around chatswood on Sunday and he wanted to go into the
Apple (as in Mac) store to see the new Ipod Nana (yes, things
man). And who was working there? Mike B... a guy who long
ago I met with his other friend Mike. I didnt even recognise
him, even after talking to him. Julian only told me when
we left the store. Pretty funny - he was out of context
and I never seem to recognise people out of context.
Went for a bit of a jog
last night, since I havent done any jogging since the City
to Surf. Went to the gym beforehand and used some of the
machines while listening to music on my mp3 player.
And today I bought a Logitech
MX518 gaming mouse. I never thought i'd spend so much on
a mouse, but hey - i'm addicted to counterstrike and the
old mouse I have is a pile of crap. This one is a very high
resolution optical mouse (highly precise - as opposed to
my old wireless mouseball mouse!), and has lots of configurable
buttons on it, perfect for gaming. Gonna pick it up this
arvo - looking forward to it..
And so concludes a pretty
damn boring weblog entry... what else did you expect!

- The next decade
It was Julians 30th birthday
on Tuesday - Happy Birthday Jules! We went out to Cinque
for dinner with Ben, Dave and Ish.
I had another long weekend,
and spent lots of time going through some 3d Studio Max
tutorials. And of course played lots of counterstrike -
our team is doing very well lately and we are creeping up
the charts.
Met up with Matt M, who
I havent seen in a while and had a bit of a pizza / xbox
night. He has returned to Australia for a bit but is going
back to the US to live for a couple of years soon. Hmm..
I will eventually do some travelling..
Last week I went and played
tennis after work with some of the guys from work (Jenny/Mark,
Brian, Vannis, Wilkin). It was pretty fun - havent played
doubles tennis in a long time. I should probably go and
play with Heath sometime soon now that summer is on its
way.
Yesterday on the way home
from work I saw a woman on the street with an ambulance
next to her. She had been hit by a bus on the recently changed
lower part of druitt st. They have finally opened the cross
city tunnel and the street which used to be one way only
is now a two way street. I have noticed a lot of people
forgetting its two way and not looking both ways when crossing
the road. It was bound to happen.
I have almost walked straight
onto the road without looking a few times myself - its hard
to break years of habit.
Star
City Casino is turning 10 and to celebrate they are
having a whole bunch of free events on this week. So I might
go and see Eskimo Joe on friday.
Only 2 weeks until my birthday.
C ya!

- Thin veil of civilization
We all live in a civilized
society. The pubilc in general consider themselves 'civilized
people', and act with civilized values and humanity.
But this week's Hurricane
in the USA has reminded us all how thin the veil of this
civility is, and how easily it can be left behind leaving
nothing but complete anarchy and savagery.
Only a day after the hurricane
hit there's looters, violence, rapes, carjackings, riots
and complete chaos in New Orleans. Armed gangs have gone
on looting sprees, gunshots have been fired at rescue helicopters,
bus drivers have been forced to carry passengers at gunpoint.
The only thing
that lies between civilization and savagery is 2 days water.
