18-Jun-2006 - A suprise and a disappointment

Last monday night I went to Star City Casino to watch the soccer world cup match between Australia and Japan. I went with Ben, Jules and ben brought a couple of his mates too.

The casino had a big room with live commentators and we seemed to get there just too late to get seats so we were ready to stand. There were a whole lot of people gearing up for the big game, cheering out every now and then. Was looking good. We went to the bar to get drinks but there was a big line, so we went just outside the room to the bar and when we returned the main room was full! They werent letting anyone in and people were complaining. Some people had been there with all their friends at a table and could not get back in to see their friends.

Anyway we went to another bar at the casino and watched the game. Like everyone else we were very disappointed to see Japan get the first (dodgy) goal. When it came to the last 10 minutes we all thought it was over. But then in rapid succession Australia got its 3 goals! And everyone went off! People were walking through the main normally quite room of the casino cheering and making a lot of noise. I think the security was a little nervous that night ;-).

We went to the city afterwards and I drove down george st. Then after coming to a standstill in traffic I saw a huge mob of people coming down the middle of george st, so I got my car out of there fast and parked it in a safer location! Then I joined the mob and they blocked off the whole of george st cheering and dancing to drums that some guy was playing. People were beeping their car horns everywhere and it was a very festive atmosphere :-). Well that was the surprise.

The disappointment came last night (saturday) when I went to Funcore, a rave that was located at the end of Bantry Bay Rd in Frenchs Forest in a scout hall.

When we turned up the music was turned down considerably, and there were police at the beginning of the street. After a while the music was turned up to a reasonable volume again, but about an hour after we turned up the police came in and shut it down. Its probably been 7 or 8 years since I went to a rave that was shut down hehe. Oh well.. Utopia in 2 weeks time.

Hooray for tax cuts!

7-Jun-2006 - Australia has 3 territories WTF!

I've lived in Australia my whole life and have always thought that we had 7 states and 2 mainland territories (plus a bunch of other island territories).

But today I learnt an interesting fact. There are 3 mainland territories - Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory... and wait for it... Jervis Bay Territory! Thats right. Who would have thought. Maybe i'm just ignorant, but I have a feeling most Australians will be just as ignorant.

According to Wikipedia, Jervis Bay Territory was bought by the commonwealth in 1915 so the ACT could have access to water (presumably in case of a constitutional crisis, Canberra could undertake a Berlin Lift style operation between ACT and Jervis Bay).

This is the reason why Jervis Bay was selected as the site for Australias first nuclear power plant, which never got built. It was commonwealth land and they could do what they wanted with it. So there you go!

6-Jun-2006 - Winding down, Winding up

Well today is the 6th of the 6th month, 2006. Apparently it is the end of the world according to some crazy people. Hmm.. its a bit rainy and cold, but end of the world? Not quite.

On the 27th May I went to Transmission, a big party at the states sports centre at Homebush Bay. They had a main room and two smaller rooms, as well as an outdoor chillout area. And it was definately a "chill" out. It was bloody freezing, and the weather has stayed cold since. The party wasnt as good as I was expecting. I've been to transmission parties before and they werent that great either. I guess i'm not a Transmission guy. So I've learnt my lesson now and I wont be going to one of those parties again.

Funcore and Utopia are on their way and hopefully they will be a lot of fun!

I'm winding down the flashing tshirt biz. I guess it was a bit of fun, but no real money in it. Now i'm setting up my next venture! All will be revealed soon...
