August 2006

30-Aug-2006 - You have been blogged

My friends are often joking around that every moment I spend with them is getting blogged. So here are some of those moments :-)

I had a pretty quiet weekend... mainly because me and Jules could not find anywhere to go clubbing. It was saturday night and Gas emailed everyone saying they would be open (after it had 30 bullets in its front door on thursday night). So I was thinking 'why not'.. i'm sure it would be a lot more heavily protected by undercover police officers and the like and would probably be safer than usual.

But a couple of hours later I got another email saying it was no longer going to open. Talk about last minute changes. So me and Julian went to Kings X to the World Bar, but it looked really really packed so we thought we'd give Plastic a go. We drove all the way over to Tailors near central station only to realise that Plastic is on a friday night, not a saturday! Man its been a while since i've been to a plastic night.

Anyway we couldnt find anywhere to go, even looked in 3D world. By the time we remembered chinese laundry it was already 2am. And apparently there was a 5 room drum and bass party in the inner west. DAMN!! So we spent the night hanging around the city watching everyone else go clubbing.

Last night Tim H and Ben C came over and we had pizza and played some xbox. I ate the leftover pizza for lunch today mmmm. We had a walk around darling harbour, raced the monorail (you can outrun it! I should try outrunning it all the way around the city one time) and ate ice cream. yumm.

Ok thats all for now. YOU HAVE BEEN BLOGGED.

18-Aug-2006 - Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Planes: The world has gone terrorism crazy at the moment. A woman had a panic attack on a plane due to claustrophobia. She was handcuffed and the plane was diverted to another airport escorted by two F-16 fighter jets. All the passengers were searched, and all the luggage was laid out on the runway and checked. A bit over the top?

Trains: Yesterday on the way home from Chatswood, my train stopped between Chatswood and Artarmon stations. Apparently there was a "mechanical fault" on one of the carriages whatever that means. The trains in both directions were stopped and the driver got out and walked along the tracks to sort out the issue. After about 15 minutes of sitting in between stations we finally moved onto artarmon where they spent another 5-10 minutes looking at things.

All this was in peak hour on the busiest rail line in Australia (the west sydney / northern line). Eventually we were told we all had to get off at Artarmon, and the train left empty. The following train got very very full, and people could not get on at any of the stations.

When I got off at town hall there were so many people on the platform that security was preventing people from going downstairs onto the platform. It was a mess. 1 train stuffs up and the whole system goes crazy.

Automobiles: To top it off, I then went to my mums place and on the way there was a lot of traffic on the M4 because a number of cars had been involved in an accident. What a mess.

16-Aug-2006 - Snowing in Pyrmont?

I came home yesterday and as I was walking along the street I saw something that looked like a pile of snow on the side of the road. I thought it was strange but then thought it might have been something dumped at the side of the road.

Then as I walked further towards Ultimo, I saw all the fruit and leaves of the trees stripped from them and lying on the ground. It immediately reminded me of the huge hail storm that hit Sydney in the 90's, where I saw the same thing.

The streets were lined with what looked like snow. All the grass was covered in it. I had a close look at it and realised it was millions of little hailstones.

I had seen a big storm coming in from Chatswood earlier, but hadnt seen anything but a sprinkle of rain. I was amazed that it had hailed, and the hail was everywhere.

So I quickly went over to my car to make sure it was ok. There was hail all over the windscreen of my car, and on the roof, but thankfully nothing was damaged.

Lucky for me!

14-Aug-2006 - Reunion

And i'm not talking about the 10-year school anniversary type reunion.

As I was browing through Google Earth, by chance I came across an island I have never heard of in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar called Reunion. If you have never used Google Earth before then click on the link above and download it! Its well worth it!!

Reunion

Reunion is an amazing place to look at in Google Earth when you turn the terrain feature on and adjust the tilt as you look at the island. It is a volcanic island that pokes high out of the ocean and has some amazing volcanic craters. Click this if you already have Google Earth installed. If it downloads as a zip, then open up the internal kml file.

Some interesting things about Reunion:

  • Its a french colony
  • There is a town on the island with the unfortunate name of "Le Tampon"
  • It has the highest ever 24-hour rainfall ever recorded of 1.87 metres!!

So there you go. Amazing the things you discover on Google Earth. You could browse all day on it!

8-Aug-2006 - Disappearance

No, I'm not dead.

But I have been sick for a while and havent been going out or doing much, so there was nothing really much to blog about. Hmm.. and there still isnt :-)

Except for my neighbours who I cant stand. They make so much noise all the time. I cant wait until they leave (if they ever do!). SHUT UP!

ahem.

ok maybe not blogging for a while was a good thing.
